Why Should You Care?
Why should you care what I have to say? The answer to that question is simple. You probably shouldn’t care. This blog has neither rhyme nor reason. It’s a half-baked idea at best. As a matter of fact, the idea for this blog is not even original. I made the decision to start sharing my ideas about business after listening to Seth Godin on The Time Ferris Show this morning. It was, like many of my decisions, made on the spur of the moment simply because it felt right.
Being a business owner is lonely. I have said this for years, and yet, it still remains lonely. I am married to a wonderful man, I have loving adult children, I surround myself with business owners from dozens of different industries, and my team is absolutely top-notch. And yet, I am lonely when it comes to matters of business.
So, my idea for this blog is to shout my thoughts into the void, to share the ideas, feelings, and mind-boggling puzzles that run through my mind on a regular basis. I want to share these ideas as a means of putting some sort of order to the chaos and possibly helping other entrepreneurs feel less lonely in their journey as well.
What will I write about?
Everything from the mundane - payroll, IT problems, and billing, to the more exciting - new business opportunities, ideas on innovating my industry, and the personalities that come into my life through new clients, new employees, and new networking contacts.
Why will I write it? Because:
I started my business as a blogger, and I gained joy from that time in my life.
When I write, I often put order to thoughts that seem random.
I make decisions very quickly, sometimes too quickly. Writing my thoughts down may help to slow me down.
Nine years after my last post at Ann’s Running Commentary, I still received emails and calls from people who told me the blog had affected them in a positive way. Maybe, if I am lucky, some of these crazy ramblings will have a similar effect on business owners. Maybe you will be inspired to try something new, take a chance, and become an entrepreneur. Maybe you will find an answer to a problem you have been noodling on for months. Or maybe, you will just be entertained.
There are probably a dozen more reasons to write, but today, these are my reasons.
How often will I write?
I am not at all sure. Seth Godin writes every day. I would like to think that I will do the same. I would like to think that I will find the time and have the discipline to sit at the keyboard daily and pour my thoughts out to you the reader. Maybe I will, and maybe I won’t. But for now, let’s just say I will write periodically. I will write when a thought comes to me, and I will leave the writing here, whether it’s awe-inspiring or completely banal. This is an experiment in writing. It is a new step in my entrepreneurial journey.
But why should you care?
This brings us back to where we started. Why should you care? I don’t know if you should. Hopefully, the journey itself will be compelling, maybe you will learn something new, or maybe it will be your opportunity to see that you are not alone in this crazy life of entrepreneurship.
