Just Write
I have started this blog post three times. Each time, I changed the title and then floundered on the first paragraph. What the hell should I write about? The truth is that as an entrepreneur, there are a thousand things going through my head at any given moment. But too often, I allow myself to be too busy or too distracted to make heads or tails of them. That’s where I am today. I cannot pick one thing to talk about. I can’t slow my mind down enough to get a grasp on a single thread. My guess is that most business owners can relate to this. As a small business owner, we wear dozens of hats. There is no wonder we become overwhelmed.
Remembering Why I Started
I started this blog for myself. I started it as a way of putting down my thoughts and as a way of creating a writing discipline in my daily routine. I started my career as a writer, but as my business has grown, I have stepped back from that role. I have hired copywriters who do the writing for No Bullshit Marketing, and my writing skills have become rusty. So today, I am using an old trick. I am just writing. I am writing as the words come into my head. I am writing with no purpose other than to write, and I am allowing the nonsense of it to remain.
Is this a perfect blog? No. If I am honest, it’s probably not even a good blog. But it is what I have in me today, and I am willing to leave it here. I am willing to leave it here for others to read if they choose. I am willing to leave it here as a reminder that some days, you simply need to take one step forward whether you have a plan or not. Some days, you need to just write.
